The calls by the Democratic Party for independent Eliot Cutler to quit the race for governor as a strategic move are disturbing.

Supporters of Eliot Cutler have decided that he is their candidate because they feel he’s earned their votes. Furthermore, many of us believe that if other voters listened to what the candidates have said and watch how they’ve handled positions of leadership, they’d agree with us.

That leaves people who are letting someone else do their thinking or feel that the governor’s office is some kind of entitlement. To me, there is nothing more distressing in public life than someone who feels they are entitled to something without earning it.

I believe, furthermore, that self-serving strategic voting is exactly what got us in this mess to begin with. I’m voting for Eliot Cutler because he is the best candidate for governor, and nothing I’ve heard changes that.
