I voted for independent Eliot Cutler for governor in 2010 but will not vote for him this year.

The dynamics that existed in 2010 – a faltering Democratic Party candidate and a tea party surge for Republican Paul LePage – don’t exist in 2014. Every 2014 poll has produced the same result: LePage and Democrat Mike Michaud locked in a close race, with Cutler a distant third.

You may genuinely believe Cutler would make a good governor. But running as an independent, he’s chosen to sidestep the support that comes with major-party affiliation.

Still, if your conscience is compelling you to vote for Cutler, I implore you to expand your consideration beyond any specific qualifications you believe Cutler might possess. Think clearly of what another four years of Paul LePage would mean for Maine, our environment, health care and so many other critical issues.

Please join me in voting for Mike Michaud.
