I notice how during this gubernatorial election, the placards supporting Republican Paul LePage say “our governor,” with the word “our” in italics. I think the meaning is obvious.
For the past four years, LePage has acted like he is interested in serving as governor only to the 39 percent of voters who elected him.
Of course the governor can’t please everyone. There are too many different points of view. But there is a huge gap between disagreeing with the majority of Maine’s citizens and having such naked contempt and disrespect for them.
We can’t expect a perfect system, but I would still hope that in America, the views and concerns of the people would count for more than they do in Russia.
If a politician can’t respect you, then they can’t represent you. And if they can’t represent you, they have no right to have authority over you.
